Watch care

At Shemer, we're committed to ensuring your watch continues to perform perfectly throughout its lifetime, just as it did on the day you purchased it. With just a touch of care and attention, your watch will remain in peak condition for years to come.

Watch Care

First Wear

Before you wear your watch for the first time, or if it has stopped, it needs to be manually wound to ensure it will function accurately. To do this, unscrew the winding crown completely and turn it clockwise several times (turning in the opposite direction won’t have any effect). At least 25 turns are necessary for sufficient partial winding. After winding, securely screw the crown back against the case to maintain its waterproof integrity. Once properly wound and worn on your wrist, the watch will continue to wind itself automatically.

Automatic Watch - Manual winding

If you wear your watch daily, manual winding is not necessary. The watch will retain its “charge” for two days or more, depending on the model, even when not in use. However, if your watch has been unused for more than a couple of days and has stopped, we recommend manually winding it before setting the time and wearing it again. This ensures optimal performance and accuracy.

Again, it is essential to ensure your crown is properly fastened after setting.

Setting the time and date

To set your watch, unscrew the crown and pull it out to the second notch. This will stop the seconds hand, allowing you to adjust the time accurately. Each watch model has unique features and functions, so please refer to the specific user guide for your model.

Download the appropriate guide for detailed instructions.

When resetting the time or the date or winding your watch manually, it is extremely important to ensure that you have screwed down the crown until it can’t turn any further.

Day-to-day care

Your watch requires very little day to day care, but following these tips will help maintain the patina of the case and lustre of the bracelet years to come.

  • Start by ensuring that the winding crown is screwed down properly against the case to assure water resistance.
  • While many watches these days are designed to be dust and waterproof, it is essential that the crown of the watch is screwed down tightly to prevent any water ingress. It is always advised to review the manufacturers specifications for water resistance specifications available in the manufacture manuals in the links below.
  • Gently rub your watches case and bracelet with a microfiber/ lint free cloth or a soft brush and soapy water. (For leather strap watches it is advised not to soak these in water but to gently wipe the strap and if required use a leather rub to nourish the strap.)
  • Rinse you watch with fresh water and remember, that a thorough rinse of your watch with fresh water is needed after every dip in salty or sea water.

Automatic Watches

Today the genius of mechanical engineering allows watches to be powered through your kinetic movement. As you move your wrist throughout the day, the rotor inside the watch gently swings, transferring energy to the mainspring of the watch, providing a constant and stable power source that regulates your watch.

Since your watch will be influenced by your unique daily movement any drastic changes could alter the watches accuracy both sedentary or extreme movement. To optimise or check your watch performance at any point we will gladly test its accuracy and, if needed, finely regulate the balance wheel to make sure that your watch is uniquely tuned to you.
